Turkey vs Greece - 17.11.2015
Istanbul is the venue for this International friendly between Two nations that are heading in completely different directions, Turkey who are in unbelievable form play host to a nation on the decline after a host of managerial changes and failed experimentation with tactics and player choice, Greece. Turkey are ranked way up in 18th in the Fifa rankings, while Greece are down in 37th.
Turkey are actually unbeaten in 2015, they have played 9 games, winning 7 against strong nations such as: Netherlands, Czech Republic and Iceland. They really are in a rich vein of form and should have a good Euro's in France next year. Greece are in absolute turmoil, they have won just 3 of their past 22 games with just 1 of those wins coming in the last 18 months, madness. I managed to catch the 2nd half of Greece last friendly a few days ago against Luxembourg, typical Greece..
Defensively very good, a good shape about them and dealt with any attacking threat well, until the 91st minute when Luxembourg crept forward and snatched a late winner, at which point with 3 minutes left, Greece decided to wake up and actually show some attacking intent. Greece have a real problem going forward and I don't think they'll be able to grind out a result or hold out Turkey like they do with other nations.
Turkey managed a good win over Qatar in their previous friendly on Friday, the main core of their squad is made up of Fenerbahce and Galatasaray's stars. A couple of German exports in the squad too and Arda Turan who earnt a big money move to Barca and will make his debut for them in January once the transfer ban has been lifted. Burak Yilmaz supplied by the likes of Turan, Inan, Topal, Potuk will be dangerous for Greece and considering the contrast of form between these 2 nations, Turkey are the more likely to win especially in their own back yard.
